Anglican Mission in the context of the prevailing adult cultures in the Southampton Deanery

Aim: To investigate the issues involved in the mission of the 20 Church of England parishes in the Southampton Deanery to adults aged 20 - 40 in the Southampton area.

Objectives

1. To determine the key themes of missiology today by analysing a variety of theological texts from the Protestant and Catholic traditions.

2. To analyse critically the current mission practices of the parishes in order to establish the practical framework for this study.

3. To use literature and other resources such as the internet to identify the predominant localised cultural identities in order to identify the adult cultures to which the parishes need to respond.

4. To investigate and analyse critically the process of change taking place in the parishes during the period of investigation in order to evaluate how they are evolving and responding to contemporary society.

5. To investigate the opportunity that exists for the parishes to develop and modify their mission strategy to make it more relevant to the predominant local adult cultures.
