The Anglican reader has become the duck billed platypus of the church, a strange creature made up of a variety of ministries which seldom seem to relate to the ministry's historical title.

It is therefore helpful to understand how the ministry of Reader has found its way into the ministry structure of the church.

2.3 Bible.

Commentators disagree as to whether or not the biblical examples of people reading can be used to justify the existence of the ministry of reader as opposed to a person who simply read the text because the literal interpretation of the Greek text is "the one reading". They generally discuss three texts in relation to the office of reader in the Bible.
