The Church of England has a system of pastoral oversight, which seeks to
ensure that ever individual in England has the opportunity to share in
Christian to worship and to receive pastoral care. The method by which this
is achieved is by dividing the country into two provinces with their own
Archbishop. Dr. David Hope is the Archbishop of York and Dr. Rowan Williams
is the Archbishop of Canterbury. There are forty-three dioceses within the
two provinces. Each Diocese is divided into a small number of archdeaneries,
which are then divided into deaneries. The deaneries contain a small group
of individual parishes.
